Urocortin

Urocortin (Ucn, Urocortin-1) is a 40-amino acid neuropeptide belonging to the corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) family, sharing approximately 45% sequence homology with CRF. Unlike CRF which preferentially binds CRF-R1, Urocortin binds with high affinity to both CRF receptor subtypes (CRF-R1 and CRF-R2), with particularly strong CRF-R2 affinity. This dual receptor activation profile gives Urocortin distinct biological effects including stress-induced anorexia, anxiogenic and anxiolytic responses (dose-dependent), cardiovascular protection, gastric cytoprotection, and modulation of inflammation. Three Urocortin family members have been identified (Ucn1, Ucn2, Ucn3), each with distinct receptor selectivity profiles.
