Valorphin

Valorphin (VV-hemorphin-5) is a heptapeptide derived from the hemoglobin beta chain, belonging to the hemorphin family of endogenous opioid peptides. Released during enzymatic digestion of hemoglobin, Valorphin exhibits mixed opioid receptor activity with affinity for both mu and delta opioid receptors, as well as interactions with the angiotensin and bradykinin systems. Its unique multi-target pharmacological profile has made it a subject of research in pain modulation, blood pressure regulation, memory processes, and immune function. Valorphin represents an interesting class of 'cryptic' bioactive peptides — hidden within larger protein sequences and released through proteolytic processing.
